The Home Of Anne Boleyn
We set out for a day of history, culture and sunshine.
Hever Castle is in the county of Kent so it isn't too far from our house, it is known for being the home of the Boleyn family. As Anne Boleyn was the most famous of Henry VIII's wives Brent and his mum were really interested in seeing the castle and where Anne grew up.
You are able to get such a strong sense of what it was like back in the 1500's.
The castle isn't particularily big compared to others around the country but the gardens, lakes and sculptures are what really add to the property.
The famous window from which Anne supposedly looked out of as Henry rode to and from the castle. You can picture it clearly when you stand inside this old house, it is so full of history and no doubt lots of secrets. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take any photographs from inside the castle so you will have to imagine what all the furniture and decor looked like.
The houses below were old guest houses and are also used by the present owner of Hever Castle.
How lovely would that be to stay in one of these properties.
A view from inside the court yard. I love the typical Tudor style houses, recognised for the black and white effect.
As I said earlier the gardens of Hever Castle really make it so much prettier. The English rose garden is absolutely beautiful, they have every colour that you can think of and the smell is gorgeous as you walk through the gardens on your way to the castle.
This fountain below is in the Italian garden and a feeling of Italy is definitely felt. The columns and fountains really enhance this as well as the numerous amount of sculptures around the gardens and castle.
Textures from the past.
More photographs of the gardens.
Gorgeous!
Lily pad hearts
Garden Rumpy Pumpy =)
The colours surrounding the castle add to the beauty and romance of Hever.
Three sweet little girls skip and play in the grounds. You cannot help but experience the fairytale almosphere whilst visiting a gorgeous castle like Hever as a child.
There is a lovely little moat that surrounds the whole of the castle.
Its main purpose was to act as a defense mechanism, making it harder for the enemy to get to the castle. Now a days it definitely adds to the beauty of Hever Castle and its gardens. The moat is full of fish, they were massive and all kinds of beautiful colours.
There are a few photos below to show you what I mean.
We called it a day and headed back to the car. The sun was shining and some tasty dinner and wine in the back garden was starting to sound way too good.
Right Back At Ya....
See you on our next day trip to Bruges, Belgium!!!!
